Right Now

I remember when one of my mentors said this phrase. It was like a treasure; I carried it with me to the field, and I remembered looking back and reflecting how it had become true in my own life.

“The best preparation for the field is right now.”

Right now, when you can’t see what’s ahead, but you know that God has led this journey so far, and will continue to show the way.

Right now, when there’s a juggling of what God has placed on your heart to do, and where He has called you to be in the here and now, in today.

Right now, in the daily, in the moving and selling a home, in finishing packing up and heading to CIT, in buying tickets to move cross-culturally.

Right now, in the excitement, in the wondering, in taking one more step, and then another.

Right here. Right now.

“The best preparation for the field is right now.”

There will be times when you are tempted to give up–press onward.

There will be times when you are tempted to look around–look up.

Press onward, with faithful assurance that if God wants you to move overseas, He will provide the means to get there. Be faithful and let Him show you the way, even if that way is different than what you might have initially expected. There may be delays and disappointments along the way, and this is when it will be easy to look around. Look up. Look up to the One who created those skies and ask Him to align your will with His.

There will be times of waiting–wait for the Lord. Psalm 31:24 says,¬†“Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!”¬†This will require both strength and courage, for waiting is not easy, but there is a strength on the other side of it, a strength in the Lord. This will also take courage to believe, even when you cannot see, that God is for you, and that there is purpose in the waiting.

And there will be a time of packing up, of moving, and a moment in time will come where it seems like both time has stopped and sped up at the exact same time.

“The best preparation for the field is right now.”

Right now.
